The host city
Pescara
Nestled among extraordinary landscapes ranging from the coast to the Apennines, Pescara hosted the G7 Ministerial Meeting on Development, offering participants a rich tapestry of history, art, culture, and the warm hospitality that characterises all of Abruzzo.
As the leading city in the region and a seat of regional institutions, alongside L’Aquila, Pescara occupies a strategic position in the Adriatic Sea. Historically, it served as a defensive stronghold for the Kingdom of Naples and, from the second half of the 19th century onwards, evolved into an important commercial centre.
Today, it is marked by a dynamic business ecosystem that has propelled the economic development of the entire region, which ranked third in Italy for export growth in the early months of 2024. The automotive, pharmaceutical, and textile sectors have been key contributors to this achievement, establishing Pescara as a significant industrial hub in the Adriatic.
Beyond its commercial spirit, the city is rich in cultural tradition and is the birthplace of notable figures such as Gabriele D’Annunzio, Ennio Flaiano, and Pietro Cascella.
The G7 meeting took place at the Aurum, a historic distillery now known as the Factory of Ideas, where ancient flavours are preserved and new ferments are produced. This venue serves as a landmark for Pescara and is part of an urban planning initiative that has enhanced the entire area, renewing the city’s outlook towards the future.
