First meeting of the G7 Academies
On March 23-24, the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, chaired by Prof. Alberto Quarzio Curzio, held a meeting in Rome for experts from the various G7 national science academies in order to draft three joint documents on the following subjects:
- Cultural heritage: building resilience to natural disasters
- The challenge of neurodegenerative diseases in an aging population
- New economic growth: the role of science, technology, innovation and infrastructure
This event was the first of two meetings to be held during the Italian Presidency. Every year, the seven Academies of Sciences are invited by the relative Presidency to gather for a discussion of the issues to be dealt with at the G7 Summit. The statements will be finalized and formally approved by the G7 national academies in April 2017, and then presented to the Italian Government in the beginning of May.
On that occasion, the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei will organize an international conference, where the seven national academy presidents will officially present the joint statements to the G7 Italian Presidency. The event will be attended by other representatives of prominent international academias.
