Second meeting of the Rome-Lyon Group. Focus on the fight against terrorism.

The second session of the Rome-Lyon Group, under the Italian Presidency, took place in Rome few days ago after the first meeting held last April.

The meeting was chaired by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and of the Ministry of Interior. It gave an opportunity to discuss about the activities to counter illicit trafficking of cultural goods, a sector where Italy has a leadership role at international level.

Counterterrorism was a key topic: representatives of the G7 countries and of the European Union shared their mutual experiences and identified possible solutions to tackle the phenomenon, especially with regard to the fight against the terrorist use of the Internet. Other topics such as illegal immigration, corruption and international anti-drug policies have been widely discussed.

The meeting of the Rome-Lyon Group, which confirmed to be an important forum for discussion between countries that share democratic systems and values for the management of delicate international issues, has provided an opportunity to analyze the topics addressed during the meeting of the G7 Interior Ministers held in Ischia on October 19-20.

The successful implementation of the ongoing projects will be ensured by Canada, which will chair the group starting from next year.
